things are looking up

July 16 yesterday. The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It's a pretty important date for me, definitely not something that would just pass by without me taking notice. Somehow I always tend to brace myself for whatever might happen on July 16, as I've said in a previous post, I've always associated something apocalyptic with this date.

22 years ago, when I was 5, there was a big earthquake in the Philippines. My brother and I were taking our afternoon naps (or trying to) and I saw my big stuffed toy on top of a shelf shaking. I was freaked out thinking there was a ghost. :D I woke my aunt up who was with us at the time because our mom had to go somewhere that day. The earthquake lasted a while. We all went outside and I remember trying hard not to laugh while the ground beneath my feet was shaking. I was only laughing because they said one shouldn't laugh during an earthquake (duh!), and somehow I tend to do the opposite. :D I also remember feeling sick to my stomach not knowing if our mom was safe.

The following year, I was enrolled in a Catholic school run by Carmelite nuns. I was a Carmelian. And for the next 6 years we celebrated July 16. I can't remember now if there's anything extraordinary that happened in the years after but I was just always on my guard.

And then yesterday, I received something I've been waiting for for a while now and was just so happy I even jumped. :p And I can't thank the Lord enough for making this happen for me. :) For the first time in years, something good happened to me on July 16.

Things are finally looking up. All good things do come to those who wait. ;)
