summer

It's still summer, and while some days are freakishly hot, it also rains a lot. Oh, that rhymed. :p I learned this from a job interview when I was told that the wet season in Australia is apparently during summer. This weekend that's about to end is actually one of those freakishly hot days despite storm forecasts. I'm just really glad our trip to Sunshine Coast did push through.

Growing up, we didn't go to the beach often. It's always pools for us. I discovered (quite surprisingly) that I actually like hanging out at the beach when my UP batchmates and I went to Batangas for an overnight beach getaway the summer after graduation. I can still say that's one of the most fun times I had! I realized that I do love being around water, not exactly in it. In Singapore, we would jog by the beach early in the morning and on some nights, sit on the breakwater whiling away time.

I guess it'd be perfect if I can actually swim! I took swimming lessons before 4th grade but never really got to execute free style properly (though I know how it's done in theory :D). I still intend to learn how to swim but that's probably a plan for next year. For now, Raymund and I just planned on driving to Sunshine Coast at least once a month to hang out at the beach. Next time we'll definitely wear appropriate clothes so we can actually be in the water! ;)

Now before summer ends, I just want to share a few songs that made my summer days a tad cheerier! Thanks to summer (alcohol) ads these songs got stuck in my head. And I'm throwing some Bloc Party in there too - "This Modern Love" has long been a title of one of my playlists which has songs of similar genre, but I only started listening to it again when I heard it while shopping at Big W. Enjoy!

Young Blood by Naked and Famous for Strongbow

The Golden Age by The Asteroids Galaxy Tour for Heineken

Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People (as used in XXXX Summer Bright Lager Made by Summer ad)

This Modern Love by Bloc Party

We should also probably invest in an iPod so we can listen to decent playlists during the long drives north!
