My trips to Chemist Warehouse started when I saw their ad of half priced Revlon cosmetics. Would you believe the normal price of Revlon Colorstay foundation here is $40? About $20 more and I can buy a Laura Mercier one already! So of course I refused to buy Revlon foundation for that price, and when I saw the ad, I drove to a Chemist Warehouse branch right away. :)
In my previous post, I showed some foundations I've used, a couple of them I bought from Chemist Warehouse. Here are some of my other recent buys. All of these I got at discounted prices!
From left: Maybelline One by One Volum' Express Mascara, Revlon Colorstay Foundation, Maybelline Dream Smooth Primer, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks, Rimmel Kate Lipstick and Swisse Vitamin E Face Moisturiser.
Avene Thermal Spring Water!
Now some quick comments on my purchases. Just a disclaimer when it comes to makeup: I don't really wear makeup aside from foundation. So what I find good might not be really all that awesome in comparison to other stuff in the market, and I'll just describe them as how I find them. :)
Maybelline One by One Mascara: I really like this, though I haven't used it enough to say that I would repurchase once I run out. I've read some good and bad reviews but bought this anyway when it was still half priced. I decided on this one because I just want a subtle washable mascara, before I get my thebalm waterproof mascara from my Nordstrom purchase. I wasn't really looking for a lengthening mascara because I'm pretty happy with my lashes which I think are quite long. I just want something to make them look a bit thicker I guess, as well as to hold the curl. I really have to buy a decent eyelash curler already and am still deciding between a normal and a heated one. Anyway, I think this mascara's done a good job at separating and coating my lashes (true to its name, 'one by one') without flaking (which unfortunately I experienced from Fairy Drops).
Maybelline Dream Smooth Primer: I made a quick comment about this in my previous post. Last time, I used it on top of my sunscreen (Dermalogica Medibac Clearing Oil-Free Matte SPF 30) and with the Dream Mousse Liquid Foundation and didn't like the result. Then I used it without moisturiser on a night out, with the Superstay foundation and my skin looked great! It does improve the texture of skin every time I apply it but I think with my oily (combination) skin, this one would work well with a less creamy foundation that's a bit matte, making my skin look good longer than just the first 2 hours.
Swisse Vitamin E Face Moisturiser (Sensitive Skin): not sure if you noticed but I spell in 'The Queen's English' now, where most words that are spelled with a 'z' in American English are spelled with an 's'. Anyway, I bought this one when I was looking for a moisturiser that's quite neutral and gentle but has some healing properties because I've been using Vit A on my face which made my face peel a bit. I chose this because it's Swisse (a good supplements brand) and was intrigued that they have a skincare line. Also it's 98.9% natural so I don't think it will break me out. I only apply this at night (no SPF) and I like that it makes my skin look healthy when I wake up the next day. It's described as 'Enriched with natural Vitamin E and Olive Squalene to help protect and nourish. Plantolin to calm redness and irritation. Chamomile and Oat extracts to soothe the skin.' And for me it's true to its description.
Avene Thermal Spring Water: As I mentioned in Instagram, I've read about this from The Misty Mom. It appealed to me because at the time I read it, I had some red marks on my skin from using Oxy 5 (which I forgot to include in the photos!), and this magical water's supposed to help with that kind of stuff. I haven't used it enough to say that it is not just ordinary water. But I know water (and I have an MS diploma to prove it!) so with what I've read about its properties, I can understand why it's beneficial for the skin (even though my boss thinks I'm the perfect consumer because I easily believe what products claim they can do), and why it's just not tap water (there's a lot of things in tap water that are okay to take in, because they're obviously not in the toxic levels yet, making the water potable). Anyway I really love using this because it's simply refreshing. I'm not sure if it's because of this but my skin does look supple and rosy in the morning when I wake up (it might be a combination of the moisturiser and my peeling/peeled skin that gives a hint of red :p) and it's not as oily throughout the day. Also when I sprayed it on the red marks I got where I applied benzoyl peroxide, the redness subsided a little. So I'm quite happy with this! I took a trip again to the store last night to buy 2 more (there's this 2 for $19.99 sale at the moment) because I thought it's the perfect farewell gift for my boss (he knows water too and has a PhD to prove it) who's leaving at the end of the month. :( I'm eager to find out what he thinks about it. And if my gift turned out to be not a surprise anymore in the event that he stumbles upon my blog, then he only has himself to blame. :)
And then there are the lippies. The 2 Revlon lippies I bought for my aunts, and the Rimmel Kate lippie I got from a friend who happened to get one for free from... where else, Chemist Warehouse!
Lippies: Revlon's Blushing Nude and Soft Suede, and Rimmel's Kate Moss Lipstick 03.
I can't comment on the Revlon ones, but the Rimmel Kate 03 lippie, in a gist, isn't for me! I like the texture and to me it's similar to MAC's lustre finish. It's a nude colour and I just know nude doesn't work for me. Nonetheless, I still tried it and as expected it made me look washed out. I guess I can use it on Halloween with heavy eye makeup. :p On tube and swatch though, it looks like a very nice colour.
So as you can guess, I'm quite happy with my purchases. :) Except for the moisturiser, I got all of these at half their original price. So thanks heaps Chemist Warehouse. :)
